Weekly Update – 4/29 – 5/4

Hey everyone who reads this, Jason here! We are nearing the end of week one of our third sprint, and things are starting to come along nicely. The main push this sprint continues to be the temple, as it’s an asset heavy scene with lots of little things going on; like teaching players how to use the Lens, being a hub to zone to other areas of the game, looking awesome, etc.. The lobby and library of the temple are in an almost complete state, and we’ve put in a new room into the temple, an area where the player will actually get the Lens. While this new room still needs some tender loving care, it makes getting the Lens feel a lot better. Our 3D artist have been putting in a lot of work, and it’s finally starting to show in the game as we integrate their work. They are doing an amazing job and really helping bring this game to life!

The new lobby of the temple

The canyon area has been split into two areas. Players will now reach the hub room in the temple and use teleporters to go to these areas. As they complete these areas, the temple will come more to life, and players will be able to sense their progress in our wondrous and mysterious world. This choice also helped us with our work flow as well. Having multiple  people working on the same Unity scene is problematic, so by splitting things up, it allows us to put more polish and time into those areas. It also opens of the door to expand on the game by adding new areas players can reach through this hub room.

We’ve also been working on cleaning up the journal and making it more accessible and functional, by teaching players how to use it, and creating GUI prompts for when new story elements are added to it. And lastly, we’ve made some steps to support deferred lighting, so for those who want fancy dynamic shadows can have them!

That’s it for this week, thanks for reading and May the fourth be with you!
